State Hospital, Carstairs
As part of the £65million project to rebuild the facilities at the State Hospital at Carstairs, the main contractor Skanska invited the JB Brickwork Group to provide a range of construction services. These include a full sub-contract package for the delivery of internal partitions and external facing brick on a new-build essential services building and activity centre.
The objective is to replace the existing hospital with a modern ‘state of the art’ hospital by 2010/11.
The State Hospital, Carstairs provides assessment, treatment and care in conditions of special security for individuals with mental disorder who, because of their dangerous, violent or criminal propensities, cannot be cared for in any other setting.
The new hospital will have 140 high-secure beds for male patients requiring maximum secure care.
